Campaigns allow you to execute action items against contacts based on the number of days since the contact entered the campaign.  The day the contact joined the campaign is called the start date. Every campaign contains, at least, one Stage. Each stage defines what action items you want to execute and the number of days from the start date you want them executed. The number of days from the start date is call the Stage Day Offset.

A contact waits in the campaign stage until its start date plus the stage day offset is today.  The stage then creates an Action Item and assigns the contact to it.  The Action Item will increment or move the contact to the next stage only after the Action Item executes successfully.

The contact continues to move through the campaign going from one stage to another until the last stage is complete. When a contact has reached the end of the campaign the status will show "Done".

A simple scenario might be:
1. Send a welcome Email when a new lead is put into a campaign.
2. Seven days later automatically send a follow up Email.
3. Two days after that send a voice broadcast asking if they would like to meet you.
