To Import a CSV File:
This entire process can be seen via an animated demonstration - click here.
Step 1: "Choose a file to import": Once you open the Import CSV from the Main Menu (as explained above), a dialog box will appear asking you if you wish to choose the file to import now (as shown on the right). Click Yes, and select the appropriate file from the File Menu. |
Step 2: "Associate the fields in your imported file with ContactTalkfields": On the left you will see the information from the first row of your CSV file representing your Fields. On the right you will see the available Fields within ContactTalk. Drag & Drop each of your Fields to the 2nd column in the row of the appropriate ContactTalk Field shown in the 3rd column . In the 4th column, you will see the Data Type that each ContactTalk Field represents (just for reference - you don't need to do anything with this except pay attention to make sure you are dragging a Date Field to a Date Field, or a String Field to a String Field, etc...). NOTE: It is optional but recommended that you save your importing layout at this time. See Optional Features for Importing CSV. |
Step 3: "Get the records from your imported file and create a temporary table so you can review them before sending them to ContactTalk.": Click the Start Import button on the left hand side. A box will appear asking you if you wish to change any options. There are several optional functions including Save Import Layout, Make Manual Fields, Make Key Fields, assign to Campaigns, etc.... See Optional Features for Importing CSV. This dialog box is referring to the Options listed at the top of the Import CSV Setup (as shown on the right). After accepting or changing options, a dialog box will appear asking you if you wish to set FirstName plus LastName to equal DisplayName. If you select yes, this will automatically populate the DisplayName for you. This is assuming that you don't already have a DisplayName column to be imported, however if you do, it will not effect that column or hurt anything, therefore it is recommended that you select yes. NOTE: You also have the option to separate the FirstName from the LastName if your import only contains the DisplayName (full name). See Optional Features for Importing CSV.

Step 4: "Move the Imported Records into ContactTalk": Review the table and make sure it imported correctly. You can edit the information directly within this table by clicking on the cell. If everything is correct, click on the Send to ContactTalk button and the contacts will be imported into ContactTalk.
