ContactTalk Mail Server

What is the mail server?

The mail server allows ContactTalk to send Email directly to a recipients mail server without using your current Email provider. You can continue to send Email using your existing name and Email address. Normally when you send Email, it's first sent to your providers outgoing mail server. Your provider then sends the Email to the recipient. ContactTalk removes the need to send mail through your provider.

Who should use this mail server?

You should ONLY use this server if you can't send the necessary number of Emails
using your current Email provider due to restrictions on the number
of outgoing Emails allowed per hour or day.

You might consider getting an account with Runbox, they allow you to send hundreds per hour so long as the recipients are opt-in. You can then avoid the bad and ugly listed below.

The Good

You can send as many Emails as you need, typically very quickly.

You get "real time" error reporting. For example you know instantly if joe@blow.com is a good Email address. This helps you judge the quality of your leads.

The Bad

The ContactTalk mail server sends mail directly from your PC. Some Email providers may reject mail sent by the ContactTalk mail server because the IP address of your PC is not associated with a domain. Some mail servers will look at where the mail is coming from and see if it matches any known domains like runbox.com, aol.com etc. This may cause roughly %5 of Emails to fail.

It's possible you might not be able to use the Server if your ISP blocks port 25. There is a button you can press on the server to test this.

The Ugly

If you send thousands of Emails per day you will appear as a spammer to the outside world and your home IP address will, be put onto a black list managed by Spamhaus and others. Most Email providers subscribe to the services of these groups. So once your IP is on their black list over %50 of your Emails will be rejected. It's even possible you will not be able to send mail normally using your Email provider's server. You will have to request your IP be removed from their list. For more information click here.
